Shoot Preparation

Ok, with all that out of the way, you’re probably asking, what do I wear!?!  Well, since the nature of this shoot is completely subjective to you and your interestes, I can make some suggestions that may help out.

A Couple Tips

First of all, make sure that you choose something that you are comfortable wearing (this does not necessarily mean that the outfit itself is comfortable).  If you’re not entirely ok with showing a lot of skin or you think your outfit does not suit your body sape, consider changing it to something that works for your tastes.  If you’re uncomfortable in front of the camera, I will show in the pictures, so try to eliminate this source of discomfort.

The next biggest thing is make sure your clothes fits and flatters your body shape.  This one is 100% related to the previous point, but not looking frumpy or “blah” during the shoot will help.  Anyone considering doing a fitness style shoot using a sports bra, bikini top, or something similar, please make sure it fits properly — we don’t want anything spilling out or or not filling in (you can get gels to help this one).

One last tip, make sure you blend any makeup from you face into your neckline / chest.  You want the transition to look natural.

Ideas

For those of you who want to get creative, do it!  The backdrop wil be a simple grey color and is very neutral.  You will be able to wear bold colors, earth tones,  or anything you want — being bright and colourful is always fun!

Interesting patterns, bold shapes, and loud outfits are always fun for shoots.  These types of outfits are great for creating interesting photos.

Finally, you can use costumes or themes  for something that is different.  I often take ideas from movies and music that I enjoy.  I try to capture the imagery that I see in my head when I listen to lyrics.

Image Searches

Here are some image searches I have done and then general theme which may inspire some costume / outfit ideas:

Here are some to get you started, but if you want, you can add some ideas in the comments below.  If you’re really interested and outgoing, you can try making an outfit in two weeks. A friend of mind has done the “dollar store challenge” where she tried to make an interesting shoot outfit from only items purchased at the dollar store.
